NORTHERN ENGLAND,

Northern England, also known as the North of England, or as the North, is a cultural region of England. It is not a government administrative region, but rather an informal amalgamation of counties. The southern extent of the region is roughly the River Trent, while the north is bordered by Scotland. The counties of Northern England combined have a population of around 14.5 million covering an area of 37,331 km2 (14,414 sq mi). This makes up the North East and the North West of England. The significant cities and towns in the North East are: Newcastle upon Tyne, Sunderland, Durham, Middlesbrough, Stockton-on-Tees, Hartlepool and Darlington. With the North West, they are as follows: Manchester, Liverpool, Blackpool, Preston, Southport, Bolton and Blackburn.
