The Hogwarts Lake is a large body of water located to the south of the castle. It is about half a mile in diameter and the Hogwarts plumbing network drains into it. It is home to a giant squid and a colony of Merpeople. The Slytherin common room is beneath the lake, accessed through an entrance in the school dungeons. The Chamber of Secrets is also thought to be beneath the lake.

The Hogwarts lawns are the greenery that surrounds the castle. Students tend to be outside for spring and summer - though some attempt to survive with the cold winds. Homework, and peace and quiet is generally the idea for most. Exploring the grounds can be done here, but do not stray too far.

The Forbidden Forest borders the edges of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry grounds. It is strictly off limits to students, except in the case of detention, or Care of Magical Creatures lessons that occasionally take place there.

The Covered Bridge is a feature of Hogwarts Castle. The bridge appears derelict, and is constructed of wood beams which extend to the floor of the ravine it lays across. The roof of the Covered Bridge is sagging and appears thatched and tarred. The bridge blends in with the natural environment surrounding it.

Flying lessons was once only subjected to first years, but now since the quidditch sport demands so much, students are allowed to take it as an extra course if they wish.

Hogwarts has its own pitch where Quidditch teams could practise, hold try-outs and play matches against each other. Each year will see a total of six inter-house matches (each house competing for the Quidditch Cup), along with numerous training sessions by each house team. The stands surrounding the pitch would be decorated differently for each Quidditch match at Hogwarts. Every second stand would be decorated with the colours of one House team, and every other stand with the colours of the opposing team. Spectators would sit in between these stands.

Herbology is the study of Magical and Mundane plants and fungi. In Herbology, students learn to care for and utilize plants, and learn about their magical properties, and what they are used for. Many plants provide ingredients for Potions and medicine, while others have magical effects of their own right.
