Our vampires can not walk out in to the sun, however, students at Hogwarts have since been able to gain an enchantment that allows them to. This is so they too can live their life to the fullest.
Vampires are not shown this procedure and when Hogwarts has ended, the spell does wear off, sadly.
Any vampire of any age can attend Hogwarts to get their necessary education, as long as they look the appropriate age. Hogwarts is only for those who have not been allowed to attend school to use their full potential of witchcraft, therefore, they are allowed to attend. Some vampires age accordingly throughout the years, these are ones who have been newly bitten. There are those who have lived for many years, these vampires sadly will remain the same age throughout their years at Hogwarts.
Vampires tend to age over a period of time. This means they are not immortal and will die over a period of time -- albeit it is a small time frame. A vampire will age a year over fifty years in a human's lifespan.
Being bitten has been somewhat of a trend lately with Frank Langstone around, many of the students have found they can not stand to be in the sunlight and have since been found to be actual vampires.
While they may thirst for blood, they are strictly not allowed to bite anyone on the school premises -- though these rules are often broken in secret. If found, the punishment is usually starvation. Blood is given at meal times so they will have a healthy diet -- though the temptation sometimes is just too hard to bear.
Holy water does not affect vampires, though church's seem to take affect. Crosses seem to ward off vampires and should their heart be pierced, death will follow.
The avada kedavra curse does not affect vampires in the slightest, as they are already dead.
